Hi I am here at Scola. I am going to review what I have been upto so far and what I have learnt.
Day1. 27/05/08 Activity: Toured SCOLA and met the staff and experts.
Lessons: Scola operates 6 TV channels, 1 radio station, an iteractive website featuring different programs such as; On the streets, People and Places, Streamed TV, Insta Class and a Digital archive.
Activity: We toured the uplink facility.
Lessons: SCOLA has one UPLINK dish and Several Downlink dishes. All channels are monitored before and after transmission. There is a 10 second delay between the transmitted and the received signal. There is also a small loss in quality in Rx and Tx signals. The Rx channel is monitored for Eb/No and is around +12 dB which is good. In addition the live transmission is being diditized and sent as a stream to the internet allowing for live viewing online. The programs are also saved for a week to allow educators or other users to download. These are avalable ten minutes after the broadcast is over. After a week the programs are archived and can be accessed in that way. SCOLA also has rights to several channels from other counries for rebroadcast such as Russia and China. I hope to learn more on the technical telecommunications issues.
Activity: Lunch at the Dew Drop
Lessons: Good food. A good appetite helps!
