SCOLA Launches Its Seventh Channel Oct. 8 MCCLELLAND, Iowa--SCOLA is pleased to announce the launch of Channel Seven on Oct. 8. Channel Seven offers a wide variety of programming from Asia with heavy emphasis on South Asia. Less commonly taught languages on the new channel include Bengali, Asamese, Marathi, Hindi and Punjabi with all broadcasts originating from television stations within India. Also included are programs from Taiwan, South Korea, Nepal, Myanmar and Mainland China. It is anticipated programming from Sri Lanka will be added to the schedule later this year. In order to offer a full range of news, drama, culture, educational and children's programming, time slots in most cases are a minimum of one hour and range to four hour blocks for Korean and Mandarin Chinese. Channel Four, launched several years ago also features excellent programming from Asia and South Asia.New languages added this month include Tamil, Guajarati, Kannada, Teluga, Bodo, Nagamese, Manipuri and Malayalam from India. Other countries include Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Thailand and from the Philippines, the languages of Tagalog, Cebuano, Chavacano and Kampanpangan. Radio programs in Tausug from the South Philippines, are available on SCOLA's website for downloading. Five other SCOLA channels feature programming from Europe, South America, China, Africa and the Middle East.
